“In July 1994, I took an opportunity to fulfill a long-held wish: to see if the idiosyncratic practices of gay male S/M could be applied in a psycho-therapeutic group setting. My own involvement with leather sexuality during the previous two decades had led me to believe in its potential for healing deep psychological wounds. In fact, it is my direct observation that many gay men seek out this taboo sexuality (or “Dark Eros” as I sometimes prefer to call it) because of its curative properties. However, like anything that is relegated to shadow, this positive aspects of Dark Eros have been largely kept unconscious-wrapped in guilt and shame and this are unavailable to those engaging in it.”
